“Bits ‘n Pieces of Me: Memoirs to retain identity in the face of growing dementia” — unpublished page 08:
(Text also printed at base of page for ease in reading)
Mom was the mother of four children under five years old.
Julie and I were four years old, Michelle (Shelly) was two,
and Spence was a baby.
Breakfast was always us kids’ special time with Dad;
when he arrived home from his night job at the railroad,
and before his four-hour sleep
prior to his afternoon job as auto mechanic,
and then maybe swing-shift job loading boxcars.
Dad sometimes gave Mom a written invitation to breakfast.
He called this the “Fallout Room” of the “Running Sink Hotel”
because sink had been left running upstairs,
creating damage downstairs.
Dear Mrs. Petrin
Please accept this invitation to our breakfast party
which will be held on December 12, 1961 at 7:50 AM.
We are very much looking forward to the pleasure of your company so please try to attend.
It will be held in the Fallout Room of the Running Sink Hotel.
Please try not to be late.
